Iberdrola and Ibermática sign an €18 million contract to transform the energy group’s information technology systems

For the next four years, Ibermática will be responsible for an ambitious project aimed at upgrading information systems belonging to Iberdrola, one of the main electrical companies in the world. By signing this contract, estimated to be worth around €18 million, Ibermática will enable a transformation of the energy group’s IT department, which will ensure improved efficiency. The service contract awarded to Ibermática covers the entire Iberdrola Group, which means services will be provided to more than 30,000 users in 40 countries.

Iberdrola has entrusted Ibermática with collaboration in the process of transforming its IT Systems. The company has been awarded a technical support service contract for the architecture, infrastructure and application technologies of the energy group’s systems, according to an out-tasking model based on technological areas, which constitutes a type of externalization focused on specific tasks.

The service model designed by Ibermática is based on ensuring system availability and obtaining optimum resource use, as well as providing flexibility to take on new competences and contributing to technological development and the adoption of best practices by Iberdrola. Likewise, the project is aimed at preventing incidents in the energy group's IT systems by planning and implementing preventive actions.

Ibermática will participate in processes involving incident and problem management, change management, availability and capacity management, request management, project implementation and technological development tasks.  This will all lead to an industrialization of the service according to the Service Factory concept, which is already being used in its own service centers.

The infrastructures covered by this support service are located in Iberdrola’s corporate datacenters in Spain. Additionally, remote services will be provided for certain systems located abroad, in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States. As a result, the scope of these services covers the entire Group.

The service, which will cover critical systems 24/7 worldwide, also includes the capacity to provide assistance in English to over 30,000 users in 40 countries.

While Ibermática has already been providing services for Iberdrola, including international mentoring in Scotland (ScottishPower), it now reinforces its position as a technological partner for the energy group.

The technological scope of this service includes Unix and Wintel mainframe systems, storage environments, databases and transactional systems, collaboration technologies, SAP systems, the entire set of specialized software packages (graphics, business intelligence, user workstations, etc.), collaboration environments and system architecture support, including both framework and middleware.
